ESXi 5.x uses WBEM so you must install a HP build of ESXi (so that it includes the HP CIM providers then create a WBEM subscription to the ESX server.

No license needed, just add some wbem credentials for the device in SIM and create the subscription.

Hello there,

Just a hint, you need a user with root rights or root itself. When that works you also need to set a wbem subscription for all servers you just added.

Re: vcenter 5.1 use HP SIM (HP Systems Insight Manager)

Hello again,

When the ESX servers are correctly discovered you can see the type of hardware and OS version. When this looks ok you need to set a wbem subscription so that the server knopen where to send wbem events to in case of a hardware failure.

You can set this for all you servers with a repair and only set the wbem subscription. Or when you look under your options menu you can set the wbem subscription for all servers. With the last option you can even shedule a set subscription to run Every X moment(could be once a week)

Right now i'm not behind my server, if you need the exact menu location i can reply to you monday.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Re: vcenter 5.1 use HP SIM (HP Systems Insight Manager)

Hello Again,

Just looked it up. To do an automatic subscribe you can go to the following menu options : Go to Options > Events > Subscribe to Wbem Events. Now you can select All Servers and click next. At the next screen you can Schedule this job to run every x time, lets say every week or day. This helps when new servers are added, they will auto subscribe to events.

You can also select a bunch of servers, then click on Configure > Configure or Repair Agents, click next and deselect all options exept the first two. Now you will create subscription and test if it works. At the next screen you need to select use sign-in credentials or Use the following credentials for all systems. You only need to use the second if you have no sign-in credentials setup for you servers. These credentials will not be saved and udes for the future. So that depends on your configuration.

Kind regards,

Andrew
