AF611A KVM Switch Signal Conversion?

Hi gang,

I've got a question about the AF611A 1x4 KVM Console Switch.  We have a KVM Console connected to the KVM switch via the PS/2 connectors.  Our servers are connected to the switch via USB  using HP AF613A USB cables.

My question is, how is the PS/2 signal converted to USB?  Is it:

  • A) The KVM switch converts PS/2 format signals to USB;
  • B) The wiring is configured for a simple pass-through inside the switch; or
  • C) The switch-to-server cable is wired like a PS/2-to-USB adaptor dongle?

Also, why does the AF613A cable have two USB connectors instead of just one?

Thanks in advance!

Re: AF611A KVM Switch Signal Conversion?

Answering my own question:

After bumping heads with my local IT gurus, we determined that format conversion is performed by the KVM switch itself.  We know this because we switched out the special HP cables with standard PS/2 cables and it worked.  Then we repeated the test with only USB cables and it worked.  So the switch must be performing the task.
