Best Server OS?

Hello,

So I've had a server sitting around that needs to be reinstalled and I'm just having trouble deciding what OS I want to put on it.

The main points I need for it are...

  1. Free based OS (if possible, I was considering Windows Server originally from previously using it)

  2. Has a user friendly GUI (since I might have other users access it if they need access to the media library, so easier then using command lines)

  3. Can be remotely connected to a Windows 10 PC

  4. Friendly for small dedicated game servers

  5. As low as possible resource usage

With these in mind, what would you guys recommend?

Hi,

Please go through the OS Support matrix which is suitable for your hpe server.

Re: Best Server OS?

On my setup, I use Ubuntu Server 20.04, using the open-source Cockpit Dashboard tool for management without having to mess with the command line. Overall, it really comes down to what you want to use the server for, virtualization with VMWare ESXI or Proxmox might be better if you are wanting to run several different services.
