Bypass switch on a PowerTrust UPS

Hi there --

One of our systems, an L2000 class server, went down over the weekend due to an apparent failure of the PowerTrust UPS to which it is connected along with several of its components. These include an FC60 disk array, four SC10 disk enclosures, a DAT drive, and also a DLT library.

The switch of the UPS is currently set to NORMAL. If it was changed to BYPASS, would that enable us to safely power up the server and its components until the replacement part arrives onsite? Thanks.

Re: Bypass switch on a PowerTrust UPS

Shalom,

Yes.

If the UPS is working at all, you can safely run the system in bypass mode. If there is a power problem in this mode the chance of equipment damage is higher.

Re: Bypass switch on a PowerTrust UPS

You did not say what model you have - powertrust is a family.

However, in bypass mode you simply bypass the UPS.

Hope this helps!

Hi Andrew,
Bypassing UPS is not safe.
However it may be the only option you got if any standby UPS is not available.
If the datacenter power is reliable then you can take your chances
