Compaq Prosignia

I have a Compaq Prosignia 200 running SCO Openserver 5.04. The on board network card was connected to an 8 port 10 speed hub and worked fine. I now need to add more devices and intended replacing the hub with a 3Com 3c16471 dual speed hub. However the Compaq Server will not register on the hub. If I reboot the hub or server it makes no difference. I know I can link the old hub into the new hub but I would rather scrap the old hub and use the new one rack mounted in a cabinet.
