HP 700/92

We are using this console, we have two, on one we do not appear to be getting any output from our box to the screen. The other works fine. The problem one just has a flashing cursor at the top of the screen. any ideas?

Re: HP 700/92

Nccdba,

Try doing the following:

power off the 700/92. While powering on the 700/92, hold down the "D" key on the keyboard. You will hear a beep and shortly see a "default configs used hit return to continue" message. Once you hit return, the terminal should be in default mode and capable of communicating with the default being 9600, none, 8, 1.

You may also check the "f4" softkey prior to this and insure that there is an asterisk in within the softkey. It should be marked REMOTE MODE. If an asterisk appears, it's in remote mode.

HTH,

Re: HP 700/92

That Didn't work Dave.
We have the Asterisk in REMOTE MODE. When we rebooted the HP 700/92 and held down "D" key, we got the message " default configs used, hit return to clear" and were back to square one.

Re: HP 700/92

nccdba,

If possible, I would try to half-split the problem by swapping the terminals. If they're close enough together, switch the serial cables at the backs of the two terminals and see if the problem "moves". If the other terminal now is unresponsive and the terminal in question seems to work, the problem is in the cable or the console port on the system is hung or has failed. This assumes that both terminals are configured the same. The HP terminals were designed so that their default datacom configuration matches the default console port config of the HP9000 servers.

Re: HP 700/92

Thanks Dave. Turns out it was the cable after all. I managed to find a spare one in our stores and replaced it. console is back in action. Thanks again.
Jason.
