HP Power Manager & IIS

After installing HP Power Manager 4 the Default website stops, it can not be restarted until the DevManBE.exe process is stopped. We run SMS in our environment and this causes a problem with some of the SMS components. Is there a way of avoiding this?

Since DevManBE process also runs a built-in webserver which uses default port 80 for non-ssl and 443 for ssl, this conflicts with IIS default ports.

From the HPPM machine:

1) Start->All Programs->HP Power Manager->Configure HP Power Manager
2) When prompted for the web port, use anything other than port 80 for non-ssl or 443 for ssl.
3) Go through the UPS device discovery to complete the configuration steps. The DevManBE service should be restarted automatically if it was running prior to configuration steps.

Update...

A little problem if HP Power Manager is NOT Configured

When the HP Power Manager Software is installed it needs to be configured
However if the UPS is not attached to the server or the server can not detect the UPS
it will not allow to proceed with the changes, meaning that the HP Power Manager will use port 80 by default

In turn this will stop the IIS Default Web Site from running


Perhaps this is a little bug with the software?


Before you can restart it you will need to stop the DevManBE.exe process

Change the port setting on with the HP Power manager should listen. Port 8080 for example...

Assuming that if you installed HPPM for the first time, if the UPS is not discovered for any reason, the DevManBE.exe process should not be started. If you somehow have this service started (or it was running while the UPS was connected and disconnected), all you need to do is stop the process. If you don't want the process to start everytime the machine is rebooted (although this is not recommended), you can change that by right clicking on the battery tray icon and uncheck "Start Service On Startup". If you need to change the web port# for HPPM without going through the configuration application, you can try to change it from the DevManBE.ini file (although changing the file manually is not recommended :)
