HP Power Manager port numbers

To my big suprise it is not possible to find which ports are used in HPPM client-manager communication.

As far as I can see, port blocking must be the problem. Due to the fact that a client on Win2003 can be seen as connected in the "attached devices" window on the management server when the firewall is off on the client, but is seen as disconnected when the firewall is on. And it it not sufficient to enable port 401 TCP and UDP.

Search in Google, Microsoft Technet and HP Support gives no clues. Suggestions - anybody?

Re: HP Power Manager port numbers

A bit more pondering gave this solution:

In the Exeptions setting in the W2k3 firewall, add the program "DevManRA.exe", the service running HPPM.

After this is done the client shows up as connected on the management machine.

Problem solved! I'm not certain if the root cause is a port blocking problem. Anyway, this solution is hopefully useful for others.

The HP Power Manager 4.0 Users Guide, page 203 shows the port used and how to configure firewall for port exception. Users Guide can be downloaded from www.hp.com/products/ups under Software page
