Issues with UPS NMC AF465A not setting static IP adress...

Hi,

The network management module is not allowing us to change it IP adress from dynamic to static. Whenever we set the static IP, in the NMC Web management interface, it shows the following message "If you have modified the IP configuration, you have to reset communication on System Settings." So, we go to System and hit the "Reset Communications" button. The UPS disappears off the network for a couple of minutes then reappears with the same DHCP address again.

The NMC has been replaced, as well as the entire UPS (which was to address another issue, where the NMC couldn't communicae with the UPS). Whilst the new NMC is able to communicate with the new UPS and appears to function correctly, the IP address will not change from dynamic to static, even on this new NMC.

I have had several cases open, with HPE support, over the last month or so, while we replace and test the entire UPS system and we are still no closer to fixing this issue. Last night, the HPE support engineer asked me to upload the logs from the NMC, which ammounted to about a total of 50 lines of events that showed virtually nothing going on, on the UPS, and certainly no errors related to the issue. We are now waiting to hear from engineering.

About the UPS:
UPS Name : HP R/T3000 HV INTL UPS
UPS Part Number : J2R04A
UPS Serial Number : nnnnnnnnnn
UPS Firmware Revision : 01.08.0009
Communication Board Firmware Revision : Not Available

About the NMC:
HPE UPS Network Module
Card Firmware revision : 1.08.004 (Firmware not updated to the latest, on recommendation of HPE support!)
Card Part Number : AF465A
Card Technical Level : 09
Card Hardware Revision : BG
Card Serial Number : xxxxxxxxxx
Card Ethernet Mac Address : xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Card Ethernet Speed : 100 MBit

About the computer I'm managing it from:
Windows Server 2016
Chrome Version 70.0.3538.77 (Official Build) (64-bit)
OS is running as a VMware guest on an HP ProLiant G9 DL180 server with HPE Customized Image ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 version 650.U1.10.1.5 released on October 2017 and based on ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 Vmkernel Release Build 6765664.
The DHCP Server is also running on a VMware guest, on the same host and is serving other DHCP cllients on the network, including other HPE rack & power systems (smart PDUs) without any issues.

Anybody else experienced this before or have any suggestions?

Re: Issues with UPS NMC AF465A not setting static IP adress...

Hi Bunsol,

The case is not related to setting the IP via a terminal session. The case is specifically related to setting the IP via the NMC Web interface. Kindly re-evaluiate your response accordingly.

Thanks.

Re: Issues with UPS NMC AF465A not setting static IP adress...

Hi Dee,

The only option will be through the Serial port. If there are issues of having a serial port connecting device or any other issue for connectivity then please log a support ticket with us if no ticket is logged. If a ticket is logged then we request you to continue with that to get this resolved.

Re: Issues with UPS NMC AF465A not setting static IP adress...

So, HPE have confirmed that there is a known bug in this devices firmware, whereby you will have problems and most likely not be able to set a static IP address for the device, through its Web interface. The only way you can reliably set this device to use a static IP address is through a direct serial console session. HPE have also confirmed that they have no expected fix for this bug at this time.

Not the kind of quality one would have expected from HPE, in the past. But, unfortunately, no real surprise, these days.
