New Proliant and HP racks

Simple question..

Are new HP racks and Proliant racks the same? I was told that HP servers should go into HP racks while Proliant servers should go into Proliant racks.

Re: New Proliant and HP racks

You can install either server type in either rack. (i.e., 7000 series, 9000 series and 10000 series)
The major difference is the 10000 series rack is deeper. They did this because most of the servers and eqpt are longer and cable management is easier to handle.

The above is true until you need to install HP9000 servers. You will ned the E series racks:

Enjoy!

Re: New Proliant and HP racks

HP only factory racks HP9000 servers in the E-series racks. They have round holes. Pre-merger Compaq racks have square holes (e.g. 10000 Series). ProLiants have differnt rack hardware available to handle either type. E-series racks have a bottom panel, and the pre-merger Compaq racks do not. Rail kits for the ProLiant server are very easy to install and toolless! The pm-CPQ racks have locking front doors. HP9000s with the E-series racks can't use the front doors. Each company had some positives and negatives with the racks. Hopefully, the merger will eventually get to a single rack design with the best of both.
