Unable to run HP Power Device Flash Utility
The card came with an outdated firmware (1.20.08) which
I need to update to make it compatible with my other UPSes.
(Need of support of new SNMP MIB for monitoring)
I downloaded the most recent softpaq of the
HP UPS Management Module Firmware 2.1.3 which includes
HP Management Flash Utility 3.0.3.
If I try to run this utility (on Windows 7 or WindowsXP) it stops immediately with an error and trying to send a report to Microsoft.
The error report contains the following Error signature:
----------------------------------------------
EventType : clr20r3 P1 : hp power device flash utility P2 : 3.0.3.0
P3 : 4c93a0ac P4 : system.windows.forms P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4889dee7
P7 : 2328 P8 : 5d P9 : system.argumentoutofrange
This seemsto be a software error.
How can I get the UPS managment module flashed?

Re: Unable to run HP Power Device Flash Utility
However it shows the exact same problem.
Do you now which version of the .NET framework this needs?
I have installed:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended
(most of these came through automatic updates)

Re: Unable to run HP Power Device Flash Utility
after lots off trail and error, I found out the problem and how to solve it.
The software needs that the system has a serial port. In my case (MacBook Pro running bootcamp) this is not the case. I planned to use the ftp flash method so this should work without an COM port, but the UI will not start.
After installing windows on a VM (I use VirtualBox) running from inside my MacOSX I could simulate a virtual COM port for that VM (attached to a file).
After adding the new hardware with "Control Panel/Add Hardware" I was able to add a serial port to that windows instance. After that the application runs.
The problem is clearly that the Windows forms tries to fill a dropdown list with COM ports which can't be filled with 0 ports.
