Ventilation fan meltdown
Hi
One of my server's ventilation fan experienced a meltdown (a bang was heard and I could smell smoke). The server's fan was replaced.
Are there any ways to prevent a fan failure? perhaps they could be lubricated? hmm..

Re: Ventilation fan meltdown
Usually no. You should not do anything with your hardware on this level - like lubricating parts. Fan has its lifecycle and finally it fails (like any other component). In this case it should be replaced by trained personnel. To eliminate fire possibility your computer room should be protected with fire alarm and fire-fighting tools (automatic like inert gas discharging system or manual like extinguishers)
