hp power manager 4.0 send email notification failure

I have HP power manager 4.0 installed on 4 servers running Windows 2003. Email notification is setup identically on all 4. The test email fails on one of the 4 servers. The event viewer shows 'email notification failed'; source DevManagerBE and the event id is 32.

Make sure the SMTP service on the Win2K3 server is started and running. HPPM uses SMTP for sending email notification.

I'm also having problems sending emails with HP power manager. It seems to believe that it's working fine, but it never arrives.

Is it possible to generate a log of the SMTP transaction?

Do you mean that the machine with the HP Power manager software requires the SMTP service running on it for email to be sent?
