HPE ProLiant DL580 raises the bar on server performance
Digital transformation is key to leveraging technologies that help you turn ideas into value for your customers. Find out how HPE ProLiant DL580 servers provide the foundation to launch your digital transformation.
Digital transformation is a hot topic these days. While some might think it’s already a cliché, the journey through digital transformation is important to map out for your business. In fact, it is vital to successfully leverage intelligence, communication, and collaboration technologies that enable you to innovate new products and services.
What makes digital transformation tick is a server infrastructure with these three key attributes that allow applications and data workloads to operate securely and cost-effectively at the speed of business:
- Agility that delivers automation and high-performance while reducing operational complexity
- Security that protects applications and data from sophisticated cyberattacks
- Economic control that allows the business to pay only for consumed resources
With the help of powerful servers designed to enhance applications and data workloads, your internal teams can accelerate the process of turning new ideas into value for your customers.
Evolving server technology
To help your business build a server foundation that powers digital transformation, we at HPE are constantly evolving server technology. For example, the recently announced scale-up platform, the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 server, extends the ProLiant portfolio to include a 4P/4U server built to tackle business-critical applications. Key attributes include:
- Scalable compute, persistent memory, storage and massive IO expandability in a design that supports from one to four CPUs
- Intelligent System Tuning that reduces jitter, matches compute resources to workloads, and boosts core performance
- A Silicon Root of Trust, runtime validation, and secure recovery that combine to offer the world’s most secure industry standard server
- An Integrated Lights Out (iLO) controller that provides consistent insight into the health and operation of servers along with the ability to resolve issues quickly from anywhere in the world
Ideal for heavy-duty workloads
The firepower delivered by HPE ProLiant DL580 servers makes them ideal for heavy-duty workloads such as server consolidation, server virtualization, structured data management (Oracle/SQL), enterprise applications (ERP/CRM) and graphics-intensive VDI:
- Configurable for up to four Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors and up to 28 cores per processor—with 3.6 GHz frequency and a 38.5 MB cache
- Support for as many as 48 DIMM slots (6TB) with a speed of 2666 mega transfers per second
- Accommodating up to 24 16-GB NVDIMM modules for a 384 GB max
- 8x more storage capacity than the previous generation with support for up to 48 SFF SAS/SATA drives or 5x more NVMe storage with up to 20 NVMe SSDs
- More throughput with support for up to 16 IO slots
The capacity of these HPE ProLiant DL580 compute components is demonstrated in independent testing conducted by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC). This non-profit corporation defines transaction processing and database benchmarks to disseminate verifiable performance data to the IT industry. TPC-H results show that the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 server is #1 in performance on the 10000GB scale factor of the non-clustered performance benchmark.1 In a direct comparison to the 4P Lenovo ThinkSystem SR950, the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 generated 10% better performance (1,479,749 vs. 1,336,109 QphH or queries per hour) when configured with the same processor models, OS, and database. Compared to the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 server, the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 offers 41.3% more in generational performance scaling.
Additionally, the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 outperformed the previous generation HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 server on the two-tier SAP® Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark. The Gen10 server delivered 38.5% more SAP SD users and 38.9% more SAPS, enabling customers to do more than ever before.2
A key player in hybrid IT environments
HPE ProLiant DL580 servers play a key role for IT decision makers who manage a mix of hybrid IT across on-premises and cloud infrastructures. Hybrid IT is particularly helpful for delivering services to develop and deploy applications on a continuous basis, and to draw insights from data.
Hybrid IT also provides the new compute experience that is now required to obtain the economics and agility of public cloud solutions along with the security of on-premises data centers. HPE ProLiant DL580 servers simplify hybrid IT by providing the agility of a modernized data center infrastructure, the security to protect your digital assets, and the economic control to pay for only what your use.
The hybrid IT approach is a valuable alternative to the public cloud, which falls short for many businesses when it comes to security, compliance, and performance. Your business needs a flexible, software-defined, scalable and composable infrastructure environment to operate across data center, private and public clouds, and the network edge—and that’s exactly what hybrid IT delivers.
To find out how hybrid IT can help your business, read the Moor Insights and Strategy white paper, Hybrid IT Helps Businesses Navigate Through Digital Transformation. And check out my blog on why the HPE ProLiant DL580 Server is ideal for business-critical workloads.
