The ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Server: CRN’s pick for 2018 all-purpose server

CRN-Proliant DL325 Award_Blog_shutterstock_145006489.jpgLooking for solid performance in an all-purpose server? Look no further than the HPE Proliant DL325. It provides a dense platform with built-in security and flexibility to address key applications. And now CRN has named it as 2018’s best all-round server.

CRN editors looked at the best new products and major updates of 2018 and chose the winners based on technology, revenue and profit opportunities, and customer demand.  CRN’s overall pick for 2018 All Purpose Server is the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 powered by AMD EPYC™ processors.

It provides a dense platform with built-in security and flexibility that addresses key applications such as virtualization and software-defined storage (SDS). With the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 server, we are extending the world's most secure industry-standard servers(1) product families. This a secure and versatile single socket (1P) 1U AMD EPYC™ based platform that offers an exceptional balance of processor, memory and I/O for virtualization and data intensive workloads. With up to 32 cores, up to 16 DIMMs, 2 TB memory capacity and support for up to 10 NVMe drives, this server delivers 2P performance with 1P economics.

Joining the 10th-generation version of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s popular ProLiant server platform this year is the ProLiant DL325 Gen10, which features major performance thanks to its use of AMD EPYC™ processors.  Leveraging the chips means that HPE can deliver the economics of a single processor, but with more performance than competing solutions that feature two processors. That ultimately results in 25 percent better price performance with the ProLiant DL325 Gen10.

The server “reduces price in two ways,” said John Kolimago, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Solutions at Blue Bell, PA-based Anexinet. "There’s the acquisition cost of the technology itself—that’s a big benefit. But where the rubber really meets the road is with the licensing models that many ISVs have, where they pay by the processor. If you can do the same amount of work on one processor, where previously it took two, you’ve effectively halved your licensing cost with your ISV.”  – CRN

Innovative design leveraging the AMD infrastructure

HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10, powered by the AMD EPYC™ processor, delivers 25% better price/performance(2) and 27% lower cost per VM(3) than the competition. With results like these, it’s not surprising that the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 1P/1U server is ideal for dense, virtualized environments. With up to 32 cores per processor, up to 2 TB of memory, 171 MB/s of memory bandwidth, and 128 PCIe lanes which in the HPE ProLiant DL325 affords access to up to 10 NVMe SSDs with 4 directly connected PCIe lanes each, and 3 PCIe slots, you end up with a server that is a great fit for dense, software-defined storage workloads.

Gen10 innovations in infrastructure security

Your servers should be armed with the latest innovations to safeguard against and recover from cyberattacks. HPE is the only vendor that offers industry-standard servers with security protection built in and supports the platform across the entire server lifecycle. Our unique Silicon Root of Trust provides unsurpassed protection by creating a digital fingerprint in the silicon that ensures the server will never boot with compromised firmware. With the HPE Secure Compute Lifecycle, you also have a new security foundation to protect against malicious threats that target server firmware, resulting in denial of service and data loss. And with the optional HPE iLO Advanced Premium Security Edition, the server’s firmware is checked every 24 hours to verify code validity and the of credibility of essential system firmware.

Additional protection is available to ensure your servers are not physically altered or has had unauthorized access. With the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to avoid unauthorized access to the server and store artifacts used to authenticate server platforms and the Intrusion Detection Kit logs and alerts when the server hood is removed.
