Building scalable mission critical solutions with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server

Hosted Blog Written by Han Pilmeyer, Solution Architect, Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Businesses today put ever increasing demands on IT. Not all applications however have transitioned to the new style of IT and many businesses still need highly scalable systems at the core of their operation. These businesses still need to, and can, drive down costs by reducing license payments. Additionally, simplifying management frees up resources for innovation and new application.

Businesses moving core applications from legacy UNIX systems to industry standard x86 servers aim to increase performance and availability while reducing cost at the same time. As demands on these core applications increase, so do the requirements to keep these applications running at all times.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has worked closely together with SUSE to bring its vast experience in running mission critical applications on traditional platforms to the industry standard world, getting the most from SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on scale-up platforms such as HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 and mission critical HPE Superdome X Gen9. These same benefits are also brought to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP HANA as Converged CS500 and CS900 systems. Furthermore Hewlett Packard Enterprise has brought its industry leading high availability and disaster recovery solution to the Linux world to complement the standard clustering features for applications in general and SAP in particular.

The Superdome X is the industry leading x86 platform, scaling from 8 cores to 288 cores with a maximum memory capacity of 24 TB. This platform is ideally suited to run mission critical applications on top of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server either physically, in one of the electrically isolated partitions, or virtually. Businesses can use it to virtualize ANY workload using any of the industry standard virtualization solutions such as VMware, KVM or Xen.
