Building secure, confident file & backup capabilities: There’s never been a better time than now
Data is the lifeblood of SMBs, but managing and protecting it can be a challenge. The upcoming end-of-support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is a great opportunity to refresh your capabilities.
For leaders at many small and midsize businesses, data can sometimes seem like a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s among your most valuable assets – the key to understanding your customer relationships and building a solid foundation for growth.
On the other hand, it’s a constant, nagging worry.
Just finding the capacity to house your ever-expanding data volumes can be challenging. And how do you ensure that your people can securely access and share the files they need? On-premises solutions that worked in the past may strain to keep pace with a world of ubiquitous mobility and as-as-Service capabilities. If your teams can’t access the functionality they need, they many turn to unauthorized cloud file shares that leave your data vulnerable to attack, and the business open to liability.
Perhaps the most pressing data anxieties, though, are around backup and recovery: “What happens if something goes wrong? It doesn’t take much, after all. Maybe somebody loses a laptop, or they leave it in their car and it gets stolen. Or a cyberattack makes it past our defences. Will the infrastructure, systems and processes that I have in place be able to get everything running smoothly again – and do it fast enough?”
Many SMB leaders have a sneaking suspicion that the answer to that last question is no. In the press of activity at a fast-growing business, it’s hard to carve out time to build a plan that will guard business continuity against disruptions caused by internal human error, malicious external attacks, or natural disasters.
But it’s crucial to do so. The risks are just too big to ignore. They include increased overtime costs and stress on your employees; disgruntled customers and revenue loss; and possible damage to your brand’s reputation, to name just a few.
Act now: Leverage your upgrade from Windows Server 2008
If you’re considering a refresh of your file and backup systems, there’s never been a better time. End-of-support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is coming up soon, in January 2020. It’s the perfect opportunity to modernize your legacy Windows Server 2008 environment on HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers with a current version of Windows Server. Our Gen10 Servers deliver added security against cybercrime, as well as the efficiency of cost-saving technologies, and the benefits of a cloud-ready platform.
HPE and Microsoft have worked together for over 30 years to combine our respective strengths and deliver innovative technologies, services, and support that help you transform your business. Running Microsoft Windows Server on HPE ProLiant servers allows you to take advantage of these IT innovations while further reducing security risks and disruptions.
To enable you to migrate to a modern environment, HPE has built several configurations on our HPE Small Business Solutions for File and Backup. They are sized to meet a wide variety of customer needs and designed to grow with your company. File data configurations provide a central repository so employees can collaborate more easily. Backup and disaster recovery configurations help minimize downtime by protecting your data and making it fast and easy to recover should the unthinkable happen.
With the end-of-support deadline for Windows Server 2008 fast approaching, the case for upgrading legacy infrastructure has never been more compelling. The time to act is right now; older systems provide a perfect target for cybercriminals because they are more easily penetrated. HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers and HPE Small Business Solutions give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing you can protect your data against the unknown.
