Creating a Roadmap for HPC Innovation at ISC 2017

HPE is committed to delivering a new compute experience with HPC solutions that will transform the way businesses operate and compete—and that’s only the beginning.

In an era where technological advancements are driving innovation to every sector, and powering major economic and scientific breakthroughs, high performance computing (HPC) is crucial to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Customers are increasingly demanding a new compute experience with HPISCBlog.jpgC solutions to digitally transform the way their businesses operate and compete. These types of solutions together with a seamless compute experience leveraging optimized IT infrastructures, management software, and services can significantly increase productivity and accelerate time-to-insight.

At this year’s International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), thousands of HPC leaders and industry experts have come together in Frankfurt, Germany from June 18th–22nd to explore the latest developments in HPC, Big Data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI). The theme of ISC 2017 centers on four rapidly evolving areas:

  • Deep learning and cognitive compute to enhance pattern recognition and AI capabilities
  • High-performance analysis of rising machine, human, and business data volumes
  • Modeling and simulation technologies for science, research, and business
  • Effective data management tools to leverage unstructured data and improve backup/recovery efforts

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is driving HPC innovation in each of these areas in order to achieve optimal performance, enable more informed, data-driven decision-making, and facilitate business growth. Our goal is to simplify and expand HPC and AI usage with comprehensive solutions. Our target customers include both government, academia, and research organizations as well as commercial industries such as financial services, life sciences, energy, and manufacturing. Our solutions include purpose-built systems, software, and services that deliver extreme performance and scale with a secure, agile, and flexible customer experience. These innovations will not only transform the way businesses execute data-heavy workloads, but they also promise to simplify IT deployment and monitoring, safeguard sensitive business data, and empower the next generation of compute with superior performance, efficiency, and scale.

HPE is committed to continuous IT advancement, and we are sharing our insights in a variety of ISC sessions and exhibitions.

To kick off these activities, Mike Vildibill (VP of the Advanced Technologies Group) will present at the Vendor Showdown on Day 2, showcasing HPE solutions alongside eleven other developers.

On Day 3, Craig Yamasaki (Director of Apollo Product Management) and Nicolas Dubé (Chief Strategist) join the Collaboration Hub to examine Characteristic Implementation Examples of HPE’s High End Architectures. And later, be sure to attend Dr. Eng Lim Goh’s (VP and SGI CTO) presentation on the Challenges and Potentials of HPC and Data Analytics where attendees can learn about the real-world applications of HPC—including sustenance, health, hardship alleviation, commerce, entertainment, and much more. Following this session, Craig Yamasaki will address HPE’s portfolio of purpose-built HPC technologies at Exhibitor Forum 02, highlighting the seamless communication and resiliency that will power the next generation of supercomputers.

Moving into Day 4, Paolo Faraboschi (Fellow at Hewlett Packard Labs) will discuss Gen-Z, a Future Standard for Interconnects at a panel delving into the innerworkings of high performance systems. Directly following this presentation, Faraboschi will join a panel with members from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, and Columbia University to plot the future of HPC machines. That afternoon, visit Frank Baetke (Global HPC Technology Program Manager) for a session on LUSTRE, an open source parallel file system for HPC and Big Data that is enhancing mission-critical operations. Capping off the day, I will participate in the Analyst Crossfire, accompanied by fellow IT experts to discuss digital disruptions and evolving technologies that are redefining IT requirements and capabilities.

Attendees can also visit HPE at booth #E-1030 from June 19th–22nd where we are showcasing next-generation HPC and AI systems, software, and solutions to Accelerate HPC and AI Innovation for Today and Tomorrow.  Key capabilities featured in our booth include the HPE SGI 8600, HPE Apollo 6000 Gen10, HPE Apollo 6500, HPE Apollo 4520, HPE Performance Software Suite, live demo of HPE Insight Cluster Management Utility, HPC as a Service, and HPC industry solutions. Come and meet our experts to learn why the HPE SGI 8600 is ranked #1 in the Green500 List and see our completely redesigned HPE Apollo 6000 Gen10.
