The 2P/2U platform based on the AMD EPYC™ system-on-ship (SoC) delivers unprecedented levels of security and performance to meet the challenges of the next generation of applications and data fueling the digital economy.

The HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 is purpose-built to deliver significant benefits for server virtualization and memory intensive workloads. For virtualized workloads, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 takes full advantage of the higher number of cores and larger memory capacity to deliver both greater VM density and unbeatable $/VM. For example, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 delivers up to a 50% lower cost per VM than the Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd.2

Memory intensive workloads can benefit not only from the higher memory capacity (4TB vs 3TB on a comparable 2P Intel Xeon Scalable processor-based platform) but also from the 33% greater memory bandwidth the AMD architecture supplies. Further, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 offers 32 DIMM slots meaning that less expensive, lower capacity DIMMs can be installed into the server and still get the same memory footprint as those platforms that support fewer DIMMs delivering better $/GB.

The DL385 brings game-changing capabilities to compute and memory intensive applications

This is evidenced in the several industry leading benchmarks that have been recorded on this platform. For example, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 world record results on the SPEC CPU2017 defeated the top two-socket competitors to take leadership for SPECrate2017_fp_base and SPECrate2017_fp_peak metrics. With AMD EPYC 7601 processors, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 had better results than Lenovo, Dell, Cisco, Fujitsu, and Huawei two-socket platforms for the base score and Lenovo, Cisco and Huawei two-socket platforms for the peak score.


In the server industry-standard STREAM benchmark, the eight memory channels in the AMD EPYC SoC helped the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 beat the Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 server with the Intel Xeon 8180 processors by a score of 291,555 versus 223,351.3  

Further, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 is an excellent choice for multi-threaded applications such as scientific workloads, statistics, and probability computations. In fact, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 has been awarded three #1 results for a benchmark measuring floating point performance, for SPECfp_rate2006, SPECrate2017_fp_base, and SPECrate2017_fp_peak.


The SPEC CPU2006 benchmark is an industry-standardized, CPU-intensive benchmark suite, stressing a system's processor, memory subsystem and compiler. The benchmark suites show a server's capability in running applications related to real-world problems of R&D environments or highly specialized scientific and technical fields.4 Here, the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 beats Huawei by almost 5%.5
