HPE is now shipping NVIDIA Tesla P100 PCIe GPUs and the performance is impressive…

Accelerated computing use cases continue to expand and companies are constantly looking for more performance.  The HPE Apollo 6500 is the perfect platform for deep learning and other highly parallel workloads. The system is designed to support up to eight NVIDIA® Tesla® P100 PCI-E GPUs. During testing, the system has been delivering awesome performance, with results showing 37.6 Tflops of double precision performance and up to 74.4 Tflops of single precision performance with eight Tesla P100 GPUs in a 2U server.

Each HPE Apollo 6500 chassis can accommodate two 2U, full-width HPE ProLiant XL270d Accelerator Trays, each individually front serviceable. The 6500 also has full HPE Advanced Power Manager support to automatically discover hardware components and enable bay level power on and off, server metering, aggregate dynamic power capping, configurable power-up dependencies and sequencing, consolidated Ethernet access to all resident iLOs, and asset management capabilities.

As a comparison, let’s take a trip back in time. In June of 2003, the #2 supercomputer on the TOP500 List was a Hewlett Packard cluster running 2,048 ASCI Q AlphaServers. The system resided in a huge football field-sized room that cost millions of dollars to purchase. The total performance of the system was 13.88 Teraflops per second (Tflops/s).

We have truly come a long way. HPE customers that are utilizing NVIDIA P100 GPUs are once again able to dramatically improve their application performance.  The cards are available on the HPE Apollo 6500 and Apollo 2000 now and will be available soon on the HPE DL380.

If you want to see the Apollo 6500 and NVIDIA P100 GPUs, please visit us at SC16 in Salt Lake City in booth 1531.
