According to eMarketer, American adults spend over three and a half hours per day using mobile devices. What has them glued to their smartphones and tablets? Mobile apps. Simply put, if you don't have an effective mobile app strategy, you're missing out on a mountain of opportunity.

With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you make the most of this staggering potential.

1. Focus your efforts

When you begin your mobile app journey, it's easy to get carried away with exciting ideas and features that will set your app apart. Though innovation is valuable, make sure you stay focused on the goal at hand when compiling your small business mobile app ideas.

Ask yourself a few questions before you begin development. For instance, why are you building an app in the first place? You can improve your app store optimization (ASO) in a few simple ways:

  • Include important keywords in the title (two or three should do).
  • Link to the app from your website.
  • Keep descriptions short and sweet.
  • Include your recognizable logo in the app icon.

5. Prepare for the unpredictable

The software development lifecycle can seem erratic. Mobile apps are no different. Bugs, crashes, and other hiccups will happen—you just need to be ready.

Mobile app development doesn't end once you release the app to the market. Your apps will need continuous updates alongside the mobile operating system they reside in to keep the experience consistent. To proactively tackle this obstacle, prep your infrastructure to support customer connections through your app, so you can remain scalable as your strategy evolves.
