Super Cool Features on the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 Server


The HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 Server has some really unique features.  In this post, I’d like to tout four cool features about this server that you might have overlooked.  These features are the smaller size, Intel EN-IVB support, the common power slots and the ability to install an internal tape backup.





When first reviewing at the HP QuickSpecs, I evaluated the differences between the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 Server and noted that it has a 5U chassis.  I also noted that the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 Server has a 5U chassis.  But what I missed were the details.  Here’s something that you also may have missed:

In a small business, the cost of office space is at premium and as a result server placement is often situated in a tight space. When the “v2” was designed, the need for decreasing server size was a primary consideration.     


And without proceeding any further I need to say the Intel EN-IVB support is awesome!  The “v2” server provides the latest support of this new Intel processor family. Why is that great?  According to Intel, the Intel Xeon processor E5 v2 family can boost server performance by up to 50 percent over previous-generation Intel Xeon processor-based servers. With the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2, you will also discover it supports five power supply options: a 460W multi-output power supply, Gold-certified (92% efficiency) 460W and 750W Common Slot power supply options, and Platinum-certified (94% efficiency) Common Slot power supply options. The 460W multi-output power supply option is HP’s entry-level, non-redundant, non-hot plug option focused on providing basic features at a great price. And finally, I need to point out the HP ML350e Gen8 v2 Server’s ability to deploy an internal tape drive.  Why do you need tape??  Well back up and disaster recovery of course.  Every business should have a backup data plan to protect their critical data and secure their business assets.   HP offers a wide variety of back-up options – some on premise and others in the cloud.  When an on premise choice is made, you typically don’t want another device hanging off the side of your machine – it gets messy – more cables and more plug in cords.  So with the ability to add an internal tape drive in a server, you keep the footprint and clutter to a minimum.  Check out the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 QuickSpecs for more details.
