The reason behind the battery change for HP Smart Array Controllers

Ashok Patel from the HP Smart Storage team explains the reasons why HP chose the HP Smart Storage Battery to support the HP ProLiant Gen9 Smart Array controllers. The HP Smart Storage Battery is designed specifically for these new 12Gb/s Smart Array Px4x series of controllers as a means to provide a backup power source to the Flash-backed Write Cache module in case of power outage.

This innovation was necessary to support bigger cache and to support multiple storage devices. The capacity of the cache module has increased in order for the ProLiant Gen9 servers to support the demands of higher storage workloads. As a result of one battery supporting multiple storage devices in any HP ProLiant Gen9 server, it makes upgrade process much simpler and more reliable – thus helping to streamline operations and minimize business disruptions.

If you have not seen the new HP Smart Storage Battery in the new HP ProLiant Gen9 servers, several QuickLook videos are embedded immediately below.

The HP ProLiant Gen9 Server delivers the right compute for the right workload at the right economics every time. With ProLiant Gen9, HP powers the next wave of transformation, bringing faster insight, new paths to revenue, smarter economics, and increased productivity.

Reimagine the server. Think compute.
