Can an itanium server be added to an existing pa-risc cluster

Hi,

I have a 2 node serviceguard cluster running hp-ux 11.23 and MC Serviceguard A.11.17. Can I add a third node that is an itanium server running 11.23 OS as well?

Thanks.... Mike Kapsak

Re: Can an itanium server be added to an existing pa-risc cluster

i would say NO.

The patches(including cluster patches) are different for both PA-RISC and RX/itanium platforms.

An ideal config is keep all the nodes in same patch level. But if you like to experiment try in the test lab!!

Re: Can an itanium server be added to an existing pa-risc cluster

Hi

a quatiton from http://docs.hp.com/en/B3935-90096/ch01s03.html

Mixed Clusters

As of HP-UX 11i v2 Update 2 (0409) and Serviceguard A.11.16, Serviceguard supports ├в mixed├в clusters, consisting of HP 9000 and Integrity servers. Mixed clusters support the same volume managers, at the same version level, as homogeneous Serviceguard clusters. The following restrictions apply (specifics for the current release in parentheses):

*

All nodes must be running:
o

The same version of HP-UX (11i v3)
o

The same version of Serviceguard (A.11.17 on HP-UX 11i v3, also known as 11.17.01)
o

The same version of any volume manager or file system that is independent of HP-UX (VxVM/VxFS 4.1)
o

The same patch level for LVM and SLVM
o

The same patch level for HP-UX, Serviceguard, and volume managers and related subsystems (for example Veritas VxVM, and VxFS)

NOTE: CVM and CFS are not currently supported with Serviceguard A.11.17 on HP-UX 11i v3. See ├в Veritas CVM and CFS Not Yet Supported├в .

*

All applications running in the cluster must adhere to the vendor├в s requirements for mixed Integrity and HP 9000 environments

Re: Can an itanium server be added to an existing pa-risc cluster

Thank you both. I have the luxury of an existing pa-risc 2 node cluster and we will try to add the itanium server in as a third node using the prereqs. in the document supplied.

Thanks for the replies.

Shalom Mike,

I'd try this out in the lab before I loosed it on a production server.

The criteria is very stringent.
