HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU

Hi,

I ordered for a clustering solution to enable me cluster a production Oracle database. Here is the product my solution provider sold to me: HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU. It came with no cd-rom media.

1- What is the specification of that product ?
Is it the same as HP LVM MC Seviguard usually installed with HP-Unix ?

2- Does it support Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management) ?

3- Where can I get the media ? Is it available for download ?

Best Regards,

Re: HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU

Shalom,

1. Serviceguard is a high availability clustering system. It is purchased either for HP-UX or Linux. 11.19 for Linux is called SG-LX and is the last version as HP has declared it will no longer support the product.

2. ASM wants to rule the system. It is difficult to run SG/LX in this environment, but not impossible. See http://metalink.oracle.com

3. HP licensed media is generally not available for download. Contact your HP representitive or Response center for instructions on how to obtain media.

Re: HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU

http://software.hp.com -> High Availability -> Serviceguard for Linux

has a 90-day evaluation version downloadable for free. The download page says this:

---------
Constraints of the evaluation software

HP Serviceguard for Linux 11.19 now requires a license key for regular use. This version includes an "instant on" feature. Once it is installed, the product will continue to run for 90 days. This provides an automatic 90 day evaluation period. Once a license is purchased, key can be added to the system to allow the product to be usable after the 90 days has expired.
----------

In other words: the binaries are downloadable from software.hp.com. You just need the license key.

The procedure for getting the license key is documented in SG/Linux Release Notes:

http://docs.hp.com/en/B9903-90074/ch01s07.html#validlicense

Re: HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU

Make sure you download the correct evaluation version - there are two.

This the the 11.19 evaluatin version - https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=SGLX1119-DEMO

If you are new to the Linux version of teh product you may want this as well - https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=SGLXICS2

It is an installation script. Many tings between the HP-UX and Linux version of the product are the same. Most differences are driven by the differences in Linux and HP-UX.

I also want to remind everyone that the Linux version of SGLX has been discontinued and only existing customers can order the product for a short period of time. Details are here: http://www.hp.com/go/sglxnew.

Re: HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU

Here is what I got whenever I want to install the RPM package for the service guard in my RHEL5:

[root@blc5 x86_64]# pwd
/cdrom/x86_x86-64/RedHat5/Serviceguard/x86_64
[root@blc5 x86_64]# rpm -iv serviceguard-A.11.18.02-0.demo.rhel5.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
pidentd >= 3.0.19 is needed by serviceguard-A.11.18.02-0.demo.rhel5.x86_64
[root@blc5 x86_64]#

Please Advice

Re: HP SGLX X86 1 year 24*7 & single LTU

You need to install pidentd before installing SGLX. This is described in the release notes.

Also, if you have the purchased product, you should install that rather than installing the demo bit. The demo bits require an evaluation license and those are not being issued any more.
