Work on shared volume groups with cluster down

Hi,

I'm performing some optimisation on an 11.16 clusters shared volume groups, using some NetApp routines.

However I'm struggling to find the right combination to be able to activate the volume groups in exclusive mode on a node, without forming a cluster. The cluster is down, but I don't want to form a new cluster with a single node. The man page for vgchange says (the) "availability software must be running on the system" for the -e (exclusive) flag.

So...with the cluster down, how can I (if I'm going down the wrong route or missed steps) alter a shared volume group on one of the nodes - with the intention of exporting the volume group to the other nodes if the changes are successful?

simply do a vgchange -c n on the vG in question, then you can do vgchange -a y

Remember to redo the vgchange -c y on the VG when finished

The only reason I could think of to run in exclusive or shared mode would be to accommodate Oracle RAC.

For netapp a simple activation as shown above in non exclusive mode should do the trick.
