configure new nic with ip address

Hi

I want to keep the same ip address but put it on another nic

So instead of it being on lan1 with lan0 as standby I want it on lan9 with lan0 as standby

Please can someone tell me what are the steps to achieve this

FYI - serviceguard version is 11.18

Re: configure new nic with ip address

Markie,

You will have to remove all of the configuration information from lan1 then you can use smh to configure lan9 with lan1's ip.

Re: configure new nic with ip address

First of all are you sure that lan0 can be a standby for lan9 as per network settings.

I mean to say while creating cluster "cmquerycl" provides information of possible standbys as per the network connections , so first check if both lan9 & 0 are connected to
same switch for possible heartbeat standby or
through some other switch for data standby.

In this edition of MCSG lan card replacement
can be done on fly under certain conditions, read page no 367

Re: configure new nic with ip address

Rickt - thanks yes realised needed to do that but wanted to know how to make this change in SG

Manix - again thanks for the input - at the moment lan9 is not physically connected so was just going to move network cable from lan0 to lan9 and configure lan9 with lan0 address, etc - basically we are moving from a 100Mb NIC to a Gig NIC (so will also need to make sure that switch port can handle gig) - cheers will read doc !!

Re: configure new nic with ip address

It means lan0 is always stand by ,.no ip assigned & presently lan1 is primary.

your purpose seems to get lan9 in place of lan1.

>>at the moment lan9 is not physically connected so was just going to move network cable from lan0 to lan9 and configure lan9 with lan0 address, etc

there is no address lan0 ,shifting cables fromlan0 to lan9 will make lan9 as standby & lan1 is still primary. This don`t solves your purpose, did this ?

So to solve your purpose you need to shuffle
between lan1 & lan9 ,keeping lan0 as standby.

Unplumb network stack from lan1 & shift it over to lan9.

Since there is just one configured heartbeat,we need downtime.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Re: configure new nic with ip address

Edit your cluster configuration file and made LAN changes.

Re: configure new nic with ip address

Ok

So its a getconf
stop cluster
move the ip address from lan1 to lan9
change the cluster config by amending lan1 to lan9
checkconf / applyconf if all ok
