A match made in hyperconverged heaven: HPE and SimpliVity’s roadmap for the future

BharathV

HPE’s acquisition of hyperconverged solution bigstock--136096385.jpgprovider, SimpliVity, officially closed on February 17, 2017. By bringing together HPE’s best-in-class infrastructure, automation and cloud management software with SimpliVity’s industry leading software-defined data management platform, HPE and its partner ecosystem will deliver the industry’s only built-for-enterprise hyperconverged offering.

Looking ahead, customers can expect HPE to bring SimpliVity technologies together with HPE hyperconverged solutions in a powerful way.

Within the first 60 days after the acquisition closes, HPE intends to have SimpliVity’s OmnniStack qualified on the HPE ProLiant DL380, the world’s best-selling server. Once this first integration milestone is achieved, HPE will be able to offer customers the SimpliVity Experience on a trusted platform they have been running for years. Enterprise class data services such as compression and deduplication will get delivered – and because the solution is hardware accelerated, it comes without the traditional performance trade-offs common with software-only options of competing solutions.

Continuing down the path of integration, the next major milestone will be the combination of HPE investments in the Hyper Converged Operating Environment and SimpliVity’s data services.

The HPE Hyper Converged 380 Operating Environment was initially created to make VM vending simple. HPE looked to identify and simplify the top 5 tasks that take up the majority of VM administrators’ time. The goal was to make it simple enough for junior technologists and even end-users to use, freeing up senior VM admins to be more productive.

The latest update to the HPE Hyper Converged 380 Operating Environment (announced at HPE Discover London 2016) sought to enable IT departments to become internal service providers for the business. With that release, HPE created the concept of composable workspaces and further enhanced role-based access. The goal is to ensure that IT admins have the needed level of control combined with the simplicity and access that makes the environment more accessible.

Coupling the latest Hyper Converged Operating Environment with the next generation of compute infrastructure, HPE aims to deliver to customers the best of both worlds on the most powerful, modern hardware available. The HPE Hyper Converged Operating Environment together with the enterprise data services from SimpliVity will give customers the right mix of a consumer grade user experience married to an enterprise grade data services.

There are lots of exciting things happening at HPE and in hyperconverged! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on our journey.
