Announcing HP Helion Rack: fully-integrated private cloud solution based on open standards

Guest Post: Ken Won, Solution Marketing, HP Helion

It has been a busy time at HP Helion, and today we have exciting news.

Today we announced HP Helion Rack, the industry’s first pre-tested, pre-tuned, and pre-configured private cloud solution based on OpenStack® technology, Cloud Foundry software and industry-leading HP infrastructure products.  HP Helion Rack enables enterprises to quickly deploy a private cloud and it provides the confidence of having HP provide end-to-end support, or “one throat to choke”. Confidence is important, because while customers want the benefits of a more flexible and more economical IT and developer environments, they don't want any compromises in terms of support and SLAs.

Helion Rack_full pic.pngOpenStack technology continues to gain momentum as noted by OpenStack Pulse 2014, a recent market research report by 451 Research. As a gauge of adoption, the report projects OpenStack related revenue will grow by 40 percent CAGR 2013-2018. The Fall 2014 OpenStack User Survey Responses indicate adoption of OpenStack software into production environments grew 14 percent year over year between 2013-2014.

OpenStack software can be technically complex, especially during an initial deployment, and HP has undertaken the challenge to simplify its adoption. Although many early adopters are realizing great benefits, many also admit to a lengthy implementation. They often cite months of design and testing before going live in production. As a top code and review contributor to OpenStack technology, HP is heavily investing in developing the capabilities of this open source project to ensure mass adoption and customer success. And as a founding member of the Cloud Foundry foundation, HP is leading the effort to integrate Cloud Foundry technology with OpenStack technology to provide an integrated, open source cloud software stack.

The integrated design and testing of HP Helion Rack significantly addresses the implementation and complexity challenges with OpenStack. HP Helion Rack, which includes HP Helion OpenStack, HP Helion Development Platform, HP ProLiant DL servers, and HP networking, is ideal for developing and deploying cloud native applications, supporting demanding cloud workloads and rapid infrastructure provisioning. This solution is built in HP’s factory and shipped to a customer’s site for final installation by HP Helion technical experts; making it easy for customers to get their private cloud up and running.

Bill Hilf, SVP of HP Helion product management, says “We just released our latest version of HP Helion OpenStack and HP Helion Development Platform. Now, with HP Helion Rack, we’re making it even easier for enterprises to use OpenStack and Cloud Foundry technology in dev/test and production environments.”

We are excited about helping customers realize the benefits from distributed computing, OpenStack technology, and Cloud Foundry technology faster. Watch this video to learn more about the HP Helion Rack.
