Building the right foundation for the future of IT

Computerworld recently cited an HP research study of leading enterprises revealing that 88% believe they need to make changes and improvements to their IT infrastructure in order to stay competitive. Of those firms, 70% say that making such changes would deliver an extremely significant impact to customer experience.

code.jpgSo how do you make these necessary changes? How do you scrap your legacy infrastructure, enabling agility and innovation? As the Computerworld article explains, “It begins with building your data center on the right infrastructure.” Gone are the days of having compute, storage and networking operating separately, draining time and resources. Today, data centers need to be converged, removing siloes and combining servers, data storage, networking fabric and software into a single optimized system that can run a wide variety of workloads. But beyond that, the new infrastructure must have the capacity to be software-defined, modular, secure, open and fluid and managed as one.

Take that one step further, and the next phase is to create a new class of infrastructure that can be actively composed. HP Composable Infrastructure uses “infrastructure as code” capabilities and allows independent software vendors and developers to programmatically control infrastructure and build out new workloads through a unified API. The API, native in HP OneView, enables fast integration and automation of compute, storage and fabric resources, and allows dev ops tools like Chef, Puppet and Docker to work hand in hand with HP OneView to simplify provisioning and speed application deployment.

“HP Converged Data Center Infrastructure provides the foundation for a Composable Infrastructure and provides the agility you need to meet current and future business demands,” the article continues. “Not only does it bring your IT a secure, future-ready IT environment that supports virtualization all the way to cloud computing, but it enables IT to support their traditional business as they start the transition to a new breed of applications powered by the data-driven enterprise.”
