Chargeback and Showback - Choosing the right solution for your cloud

One of my co-workers, Barbara, has been working on the CloudSystem Matrix chargeback and show back features. She sent me the following blog article to post.

As a business owner, would you open a store without any process to charge back your merchandise? As a user, would you buy a service without knowing the cost upfront? This kind of cost management requirements applies to cloud computing. While cloud computing promises many opportunities for IT cost savings, its diverse and dynamic nature also makes it difficult to reap the expected financial benefits.

You need to have an open and holistic solution to deal with various chargeable elements for cost accountability and control. HP CloudSystem can create chargeback/showback reports for its managed resources and services. For a more complete IT environment that may encompass private cloud, public clouds and traditional IT data centers, HP is partnering with a cloud cost management software provider called Cloud Cruiser to enable customers to implement cost transparency and chargeback across their hybrid enterprise cloud.

As a revolutionary cost analytics platform, Cloud Cruiser delivers cost intelligence based on granular, enterprise-wide resource usage and spending. Cloud Cruiser leverages a centralized repository of all enterprise IT spending,  this provides the ability to collect, analyze, optimize, and charge back for IT resources. This applies to all resources used throughout your public, private or hybrid cloud. Cloud Cruiser has out-of-the-box integration with HP CloudSystem by directly collecting service data from Matrix Operating Environment and Cloud Service Automation.

Cloud Cruiser offers the following benefits:

  • “Personal Cloud” self-service portal, role-based dashboard and reporting

  • End-to-end cost visibility enterprise-wide

  • Multi-level organizational mapping—horizontal, vertical and hierarchical

  • Flexible pricing models—fixed, variable, tiered, subscription, discount and promotional

  • Granular-level business intelligence (BI) and analytics and quick answer standard reports

  • Budgets, alerts and consumption forecasting

  • Audit and compliance capabilities using time-stamped summary cost data

If you are at HP Discover, you can get more information in two ways. First, there is a session on the cost management solutions for HP CloudSystem (session T3008). It is on Thursday at 4 p.m. There are also demos in the HP Cloud Zone and the Cloud Cruiser booth (#418). Otherwise, feel free to visit the HP CloudSystem or Cloud Cruiser websites to learn more.

Thanks Barbara for the update!
