HPE joins CFF certification to strengthen application portability across hybrid enterprise clouds
Guest Author: Omri Gazitt, VP Products & Services, HPE Helion
HPE launches the technical preview of HPE Helion Cloud Foundry, HPE’s Cloud Foundry Foundation-certified PaaS solution, and leads efforts to advance open standards, higher quality, and interchangeability among industry vendors
Many enterprise customers are adopting Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions in an effort to facilitate the handoff between developers & IT, maximize developer productivity, and ultimately increase the speed to market of applications. HPE has chosen to build its PaaS offering on Cloud Foundry, the leading multi-vendor open source PaaS project, because we are confident that over time, open ecosystems win out over closed ones. Our PaaS solution enables enterprise developers to focus on building, deploying and scaling cloud-native applications faster, utilizing Cloud Foundry as our runtime. Rather than differentiate on the core runtime, our product will lead in the areas of deployment and management, operator and developer consoles, and best-in-class developer tools.
As a founding Platinum member and contributor to the Cloud Foundry Foundation, HPE is excited to participate in the first wave of certifications issued by the Foundation. We think this will be important to our enterprise customers because it will facilitate the following scenarios:
- Enable application and skill portability across CF-certified products and services.
The Cloud Foundry certification guarantees the existence of the common "open source" base core which is shared and present between all certified implementations. This provides a shared foundation on which developers can rely, enabling portability of applications, services and knowledge.
- Empower customers to leverage the full set of application services developed in the Cloud Foundry ecosystem.
HPE is focused on making the same implementation available on multiple platforms (Helion OpenStack, AWS, Azure, vSphere). We are expanding on the promise of portability of apps and workloads across platforms by integrating with the specific platform’s application services via a universal service broker.
- Provide users / operators with a baseline for quality and sustainability.
Enterprise customers can expect a minimum bar of quality, security, and common agreed criteria among the vendors who are certified, thereby increasing confidence in a commitment to the Cloud Foundry ecosystem. Additionally, everyone benefits from improvements in the underlying shared core which is guaranteed to be used in unmodified & certified form.
Today, we are launching our HPE Helion Cloud Foundry implementation in technical preview – which means that our customers have a chance to try it out. Over time, this will power the core of our commercial products and become the certified Cloud Foundry implementation across our product portfolio.
We are excited to help lead the certification movement inside the Cloud Foundry Foundation. This direction will bring many benefits to customers looking to implement a private PaaS for their organization.

I manage the HPE Helion social media and website teams promoting the enterprise cloud solutions at HPE for hybrid, public, and private clouds. I was previously at Dell promoting their Cloud solutions and was the open source community manager for OpenStack and Xen.org at Rackspace and Citrix Systems. While at Citrix Systems, I founded the Citrix Developer Network, developed global alliance and licensing programs, and even once added audio to the DOS ICA client with assembler.
