How hyperconverged infrastructure can play a role in your hybrid it model

cassandrarowe

2017 cloud computing trends survey found that 85 percent of enterprises are pursuing a multi-cloud strategy. Additionally, according to IDC, 53% of enterprises have or are considering bringing their workloads back on-premises. These reports ultimately point to the same trend – the adoption of a hybrid IT strategy, a mix of private and public clouds and on-premises infrastructure, is on the rise in businesses everywhere. How hyperconverged infrastructure can play a role in your hybrid it model.jpg

The notion of hybrid IT is not new – there are many vendors that offer the various technologies needed for a hybrid IT solution. So many, in fact, that it can be difficult to wade through all the choices to find a secure solution. As you start to consider which components you’ll want in your hybrid IT model, cost will undoubtedly be a factor weighing on your mind. Despite the hype around how the public cloud is inexpensive, it is not the only technology that can lower your IT costs.

An independent research group recently ran a TCO study analyzing a hyperconverged solution from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and a comparable AWS solution. They determined that an HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure, which can serve as a component of your hybrid IT strategy, delivers enterprise performance and resiliency at a lower cost per VM than Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Evaluator Group report uncovered a comparative savings of 27 to 55 percent over three years.

And that’s not the only reason to consider hyperconvergence for your datacenter. A hybrid IT model using HPE SimpliVity powered by Intel® hyperconverged infrastructure can provide additional benefits that go beyond these cost savings.

Self-Service Provisioning Made Easy with Hyperconverged Infrastructure

HPE SimpliVity uses a VM-centric management approach that eliminates manually intensive, error-prone administrative tasks. Because of this, system administrators no longer need to manage LUNs and volumes and instead can manage resources and workloads with familiar interfaces, like VMware vCenter, or APIs.

Ability to Start Small and Scale Big to Match Demand

HPE hyperconverged deployments are optimized for high-availability, starting at just two nodes with the opportunity to add more at any time. Different financial options are also available to minimize upfront investment or to better align to OPEX budgets. Because of this scale-as-you-go approach, IT teams can quickly adjust the infrastructure to match changing demands.

An Operating Model Driven by the Solution or Service

Hyperconverged units include a balance of resources (compute, memory, storage) that are utilized for improving flexibility, speed, and reducing costs. Capacity in the units scale linearly, and performance is not affected when more nodes are added, which leads to even more cost savings. The granularity of each allows infrastructure capacity to match demand and streamline chargebacks, ensuring that businesses can maintain maximum use of the deployed infrastructure.

When combined with cloud and other traditional on-premises IT models, hyperconverged infrastructure can help advance your hybrid IT strategy to the next level, and for that reason, many businesses have adopted this methodology. HPE SimpliVity is one of many hybrid IT resources HPE provides that offer a secure, on-premises solution that truly delivers a powerful, easy to use, and cost-effective solution for your data center.
