Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. #HPEDare2Compare

I’ve always loved proverbs—pithy sayings that portray a traditionally held truth. And “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” is one of my favorites.  So when Nutanix started copying the #HPEDare2Compare twitter campaign, I was pleased. They responded with their own #Dare2Compare tweets, which was one of the results HPE wanted to achieve with the campaign.

As you may recall, HPE launched the lighthearted campaign to get actual, proven hyperconverged performance facts published in the marketplace, thereby helping customers make better informed decisions. Hyperconverged infrastructure is the fastest growing segment in today’s data center, motivating a variety of vendors to bring competing solutions to market. And with all of these new solutions comes a barrage of claims—including those that sometimes overstate functionality. For example, “Any application at any scale.”

Until HPE started #HPEDare2Compare, I couldn’t find any data from other vendors to back up these types of performance claims. This lack of documented evidence was a big motivator for HPE to validate their own performance claims and make them public. With the #HPEDare2Compare campaign, HPE wanted to encourage visibility and substantiation of some of the claimed stats around other vendors’ hyperconverged solutions. And it worked!

We are now seeing Nutanix respond with some claims of their own. I applaud Nutanix for stepping up. When vendors release this type of information, the customer wins. The more information customers have, the better decisions they can make.

So in honor of the continued success of the #HPEDare2Compare performance exchange, I’d like to highlight some of HPE’s most recent hyperconverged product news. And at the end of this blog, I’ll follow up with some tweets.

The HPE Hyper Converged 380 powered by Intel® is an all-in-one, software-defined virtualization solution. HPE recently announced a new operating environment for the system -- the HPE Hyper Converged OE 2.0. The updated operating environment brings composable attributes to the HPE Hyper Converged 380, letting you become a service provider to your lines of businesses (LOB’s) within your own data center. Designed for the way businesses really operate, this new operating environment brings cloud-like efficiency, flexibility and speed to your datacenter.

For example, most businesses are made up of multiple business units and workgroups, such as a marketing team, supply chain or finance group. And each of these groups has unique IT needs. When those needs aren’t being met, someone submits a service ticket, which may take days or weeks to get a response. Wouldn’t it be great if IT could become an internal service provider and meet those needs immediately?

They can -- through something HPE calls multi-tenant workspaces and a self-service portal. With these capabilities, HPE differentiates the HPE Hyper Converged 380 even further from the competition.

  • Value to IT

Using multi-tenant workspaces, IT has the power to compose and recompose resources efficiently and respond to new requests within minutes. Resource silos and barriers across business units dissolve, providing fluid resource pools that any group can access. Built-in, advanced analytics gives IT the insights and trend data they need to ensure resources are always available. IT can even predict future needs, taking actions to add capacity without the users even knowing that they need it. And this process is all so easy, an IT generalist can do it, freeing up your specialists for other tasks.

  • Value to developers

Developers can go to their own self-service portal and easily access their personalized development playground. No more submitting service tickets and waiting on approvals. With this instant environment, you can start development as soon as you have an amazing idea.

  • Value to business

Because all of this happens with cloud-like efficiency, flexibility and speed, your business can be more competitive. IT resources are always available to your lines of business. New applications are developed faster. And IT operators are free to focus on other tasks.

With the new Hyper Converged 380 operating environment 2.0, your business can now move with cloud-like efficiency, flexibility and speed.
