In the spotlight! HPE Synergy Compute close-up

KailahG

The word zombie may bring to mind semi-lifeless beings shuffling across the landscape of a deserted city with their arms held out in front of them, terrorizing what is left of civilization. Or, if you spend a lot of time in the data center, in may bring to mind countless servers sitting unutilized, waiting for the moment when a particular workload may need more compute power to continue running.

The zombie server epidemic is real. Research across the board estimates that on average 30% of servers are just sitting there, sucking up space and power, yet running nothing most of the time. Overprovisioning is a costly issue, and one that is not easily resolved with today’s clunky infrastructure.

To address this issue, HPE designed HPE Synergy to be flexible enough to drastically reduce overprovisioning. HPE Synergy offers a diverse portfolio of compute modules that have software-defined intelligence built in. With HPE Synergy compute, you have a range of choices for memory, cores, and processors to fit your workload and application needs. To help reduce overprovisioning, HPE OneView manages the platform, so you can also easily provision the right amount of compute without having to waste resources. By leveraging HPE Synergy’s Unified API, you can create templates for applications that are able to intelligently pull and return resources to and from the infrastructure as your workload demands flex over time.

To understand which compute modules are right for your needs, take a closer look at the compute module options for HPE Synergy in the video below. Then visit hpe.com/info/synergy  or download a free copy of HPE Synergy For Dummies and take a deep dive into how all of the HPE Synergy elements work together to create a composable infrastructure.

Take a look at some of our other In the spotlight! posts to learn more about HPE Synergy Storage and the Infrastructure itself, and stay tuned for the rest of the series!
