Introducing CloudSystem 10 - The Comprehensive Cloud Solution for Hybrid IT

Guest post by Shashi Mysore- Senior Director of Product Management, HPE Helion CloudSystem

In Tuesday’s post, Vice President of Cloud Products and Services, Omri Gazitt, laid out HPE’s vision for enterprise Hybrid IT, covering seven key drivers of cloud computing. Self-service, infrastructure automation, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and faster provisioning with containers are four drivers that directly enhance business agility, while consumption based pricing, elastic utility, and standard hardware help lower the cost of IT operations. Today, I’d like to talk about how we make that vision a reality for our customers with HPE Helion CloudSystem 10. Announced this week at HPE Discover in Las Vegas, CloudSystem 10 is HPE’s flagship hardware and software solution for hybrid and private cloud- an extensive cloud ecosystem integrated by design and ready to be stood up as its own private cloud or integrated with your existing cloud, virtualized, and traditional resources.

Manage Hybrid IT

A reality of today's enterprise IT, as IT transforms to an internal service provider, is that there is a 'Right Mix' of resources for each organization. A financial services provider, for example, may choose to keep its sensitive account information on-premises in a traditional environment, they may run their internal LOB applications on private cloud resources that can be allocated based on business priorities, and they may run their client facing web application from a public cloud environment that can scale dynamically to meet the needs of the busy holiday season or a rush of trading activity. If the provider isn’t careful, though, each of those environments can become siloed and opaque. Each may have a unique set of management capabilities and tools that do not play well with each other. The result is a poorly managed ecosystem that manifests itself in cost- underutilized hardware, overprovisioned resources, and slow, manual, and error prone operations. CloudSystem 10 provides unified management, automation, and orchestration across a variety of best-of-breed IaaS providers, hypervisors, and computing models (cloud, virtual, containers, and traditional) to provide greater visibility to the administrator across the ecosystem and automate routine or complex procedures. CloudSystem includes an enterprise grade OpenStack distro (with Helion OpenStack 3.0) for standing up new private IaaS resources. With Cloud Service Automation, CloudSystem 10 supports the orchestration and management across private, managed, and public clouds such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (including a private environment with HPE Helion Eucalyptus). The result is more efficient, faster IT operations, needing fewer resources dedicated to day-to-day tasks and more resources available to drive IT innovation, optimization, and new lines of business.

Empower Developers

It is important to remember though, that management and administration of infrastructure is not the end goal. Infrastructure is the tool you use to support your business. Your applications and services are the frontline of your business- if they’re not directly customer facing, they support the teams that are. On top of that, we live in a world where every digital interaction is compared to a consumer app. Both internal and external audiences expect an intuitive user experience, blazing speed, and an ever-expanding feature set interconnecting different aspects of their daily lives. Behind those applications are your developers. Developers are often responsible for your customer’s first impression of you- your website, your mobile app, or your email campaign, for example. Developers come in all shapes and sizes, with their own preferences for workstyle, cloud resources, runtime environments, and languages. Beyond strategic vision and strong management, the thing developers need most is freedom- freedom to code in a variety of frameworks based on the needs of the applications, freedom to access a variety of resources on demand, and freedom to develop and deploy on their own cadence. CloudSystem 10 enables this freedom in two primary ways: self-service access to resource through a user marketplace or RESTful APIs, be it bare metal, or virtualized, or containers, or IaaS resources; and Helion Stackato 4.0, a multi-cloud PaaS environment designed for rapid innovation. In CloudSystem 10, HPE Helion Stackato 4.0 replaces HPE Helion Development Platform, bringing the ability to deploy to multiple infrastructure providers while maintaining a shared control plane for cloud native services. Container based, with a certified Cloud Foundry distribution, Stackato 4.0 enables DevOps and CI/CD scenarios. Developers can focus on building rich, immersive, responsive digital experiences utilizing agile methodology while IT admins retain the required insight and control across management, compliance, security, and cost. Deliver Enterprise Quality

The quality of those digital experiences is directly perceived as an indicator of the quality of the rest of your business. It is imperative that your IT environments, the applications that run on them, and the data they access, are highly secure, highly resilient, and high-performing. Sensitive customer data should be protected from accidental loss and malicious access while considering factors like compliance and data sovereignty; environments and experiences should remain accessible during crises, upgrade cycles, and high usage times; and both should be delivered with a speed that is dictated by the rhythm of business, not that of IT. As an integrated system of infrastructure, IaaS, PaaS, and management, CloudSystem 10 is designed from the ground up to be reliable, resilient, and secure. We start with the open, powerful, flexible capabilities of OpenStack and Cloud Foundry for IaaS and PaaS respectively, then add enterprise grade features for security and resiliency. We include industry leading solutions for automation and orchestration of multi-hypervisor and multi-IaaS environments- Cloud Service Automation 4.6 and Operations Orchestration 10.5. We deliver it all on industry leading HPE hardware in a variety of modular configurations that are scalable to meet the future needs of your organization while accommodating existing IT investments - from the Hyper Converged 380 for smaller scale scenarios to the ConvergedSystem 700/700x, and everything in between - provisioned and managed through a unified API and template driven composition with HPE OneView. Finally, we also have professional and financial services to help design, power, and optimize that environment to take your business from where it is to where you want to go.

HPE is committed to providing a comprehensive cloud solution spanning infrastructure, IaaS, PaaS, and services. CloudSystem 10 is the physical manifestation of decades of thought leadership, experience, and customer success. Enterprise organizations, government agencies, and service providers across the globe have found success with HPE, and we continue to be the leading provider of cloud infrastructure in the market.
