Just announced! Automation for HPE SimpliVity and Citrix Cloud

Organizations have an increasing need for secure, simplified management tools for private and public cloud environments. HPE and Citrix are partnering to make secure hybrid cloud workspaces a practical reality.

HPE SimpliVity client virtualization solutions have consistently improved end-user experience and operational efficiency in private cloud environments. Today, I am pleased to announce the general availability of the HPE SimpliVity vSphere plug-in for Citrix Cloud.

Secure hybrid cloud workspaces for VDI

The biggest drivers in the end user computing market today are:

  1. Simplified management โ€“ Everyone wants to spend more time innovating versus spending time on managing disparate technologies and infrastructure resources
  2. Security โ€“ With the growing popularity of cloud offerings, SaaS, work anywhere models, the need to secure devices, data and IT environments along with detecting potential threats.
  3. Cost and Performance โ€“ Cost is a decision point in any investment. The ability to deliver lower TCO while providing high desktop density in terms of performance is going to result in happy business owners, happy IT admins and happy end users.

HPE SimpliVity, coupled with Citrix Cloud, delivers the simplicity, security and performance needed in virtualized desktop environments. These new Citrix Cloud Connector plugins enable that connection.SimpliVity to Citrix Cloud.jpg

Hyperconverged simplicity and performance

HPE SimpliVity consolidates IT stack components and advanced data services into an all-flash solution. The converged infrastructure reduces IT costs and is much simpler to manage than siloed, multi-vendor environments. Not to forget, the HPE SimpliVity platform is based on the secure ProLiant DL380 server offering from HPE. From a performance perspective, HPE SimpliVity provides great desktop density which contributes to lower TCO. Recent performance testing, validated by Login VSI (de facto benchmarking tool for EUC workloads), confirms the superior quality of EUC solutions on HPE SimpliVity infrastructure.

HPE recently launched a software optimized hyperconverged model (in addition to its HPE SimpliVity 380 family models), the HPE SimpliVity 2600. This model provides a denser option in terms of physical form factor for customers that are interested in HPE SimpliVity HCI.

Software-as-a-service for virtualized desktops

Citrix Cloud delivers and manages Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops as-a-service, letting you run your desktops on premises while having XenApp and XenDesktop components hosted in the cloud. In order to consume those services, you must first configure your hyperconverged infrastructure to connect to Citrix Cloud. The new HPE plugin does just that, automatically configuring your HPE SimpliVity environment, so that you can start deploying desktops and applications directly.

Secure and simple to manage, the entire Citrix control plane is handled by Citrix, including general maintenance, patching and upgrade of the components. Along with that, Citrix also enables secure policies on its inbound and outbound connections to protect data and safeguard it from malicious attacks.

The HPE SimpliVity vSphere plugin automatically connects a SimpliVity cluster to Citrix Cloud for the deployment and delivery of virtual desktops and applications. Supported on all HPE SimpliVity models, this plugin provides a simple and intuitive input screen to either configure or de-configure HPE SimpliVity clusters from Citrix Cloud. The plugin deploys the Cloud Connector VMs and configures them according to Citrix standards so that SimpliVity clusters can be recognized as endpoint resources for desktops and applications. The plugin will be validated under the Citrix Ready program.

The Cloud Connector plugin for vSphere is available for download through HPE GitHub along with user documentation and release notes. The plugin will be supported through a community effort model. Any issue or enhancement request can be reported within the GitHub repository directly and developers will be addressing them on a periodic basis. Newer versions will be made available through the same repository.

Together, HPE and Citrix are making secure hybrid cloud workspaces a practical reality through partnership and innovation. Integration plugins are a beginning to a wide variety of joint solutions that will be developed to make end user experience simpler and more efficient for joint HPE and Citrix customers.
