OpenStack® Scholarship Program: advancing the next generation of female technologists

HP Helion scholarship.png

When we launched the HP Helion OpenStack Scholarship Program in 2014 we had high expectations, and I’m happy to report that we exceeded them. We awarded the scholarship to four wonderful women. This opportunity also included mentoring, and internship opportunities, and we are pleased to announce they made the most of the program.

Now we are launching the second round of the HP Helion OpenStack Scholarship program, with all its original features and even some enhancements.

What is it?

The scholarship is a special program for college women pursuing a career in technology. This HP program awards four female candidates a scholarship of $10,000 USD each, plus mentorship and potential internship possibilities in the future. We pair students with mentors in their desired OpenStack projects for more hands-on experience and upstream contribution opportunities.

Who can apply?

All women who are enrolled full time in an information systems or computer science (or equivalent) major course of study and are capable of developing a project using OpenStack technology and/or Cloud Foundry are eligible.

How to apply?

Qualified applicants must complete the official online application. Please attach applicable experience and a CV/resume, as well as a small sample of a previous coding example from school and/or an example project using OpenStack or Cloud Foundry technology. A review panel will evaluate all submissions, and the recipients will be announced in October.

All applications must be submitted by 10 p.m. PDT on September 30, 2015. Entries submitted after this day and time will not be accepted.

Is this scholarship being offered for 2016-2017?

Hello Susan,

Nov 2015 was the last year this program was available from HPE. In the meantime our mentors have been working directly with the Women of OpenStack mentoring program that is being run by the OpenStack Foundation. You can learn more about that program and how to get involved here:

Best of luck! Hope to see you on IRC or at an OpenStack event in the near future!
