Why HPE for Hyperconverged Infrastructure
Most businesses that implement hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) do so in order to streamline their IT operations and simplify the data center by converging servers, storage and storage networking into one simple to manage, software-defined platform. HCI โ the fastest growing infrastructure within the datacenter โ delivers that simplicity, plus the agility and economics of the cloud in an on-premises, virtualized solution.
Yet, the majority of HCI solutions available today are only solving part of the datacenterโs problem. These solutions consolidate servers and storage, and more or less stop there. With the growth of virtualization, additional appliances need to be added to the legacy infrastructure stack in order to manage increasing demands. These appliances include solutions for backup and deduplication, WAN optimization, storage caching, and others. Wouldnโt it be nice if a hyperconverged solution solved the complete problem โ not just half of it?
To address this need, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) combined best in class data services with the worldโs best-selling server to create HPE SimpliVity powered by Intelยฎ hyperconverged solutions. Optimized from the ground up for virtual environments, HPE SimpliVity nodes consolidate not only servers and storage, but all of the other IT components below the hypervisor. That means all of ITโs infrastructure and advanced data services are elegantly packed in a single building block. And as the most powerful, simple, and efficient hyperconverged solution on the market today, the HPE SimpliVity 380 lets you reduce datacenter devices by 10:1, achieve 90% capacity savings across production and backup storage, and reduce TCO by 69%.
The software powering the HPE hyperconverged infrastructure is the HPE SimpliVity Data Virtualization Platform, a globally-aware data fabric that includes built-in data deduplication and compression, and that makes data easy to manage and highly mobile across multiple sites. This powerful solution provides three key capabilities that modern data centers must have:
1. Guaranteed Data Efficiency
HPE SimpliVity infrastructure deduplicates, compresses, and optimizes all data at inception โ in real time across all tiers of data. On average, customers are seeing 40:1 data efficiency across VM storage and backup, and more than a third are seeing greater than 100:1. That means for every 100TB of data, you only store 1TB on disk. As a proof point of the platformโs data efficiency, the HPE SimpliVity HyperGuarantee promises that customers will achieve 90% capacity savings, along with greater manageability, simplicity and data protection.
2. Built-in Resiliency, Backup and Disaster Recovery
HPE SimpliVity delivers fast backups that require just a few mouse clicks -- you can back up a 1 TB VM in less than 60 seconds, a process that can take hours with legacy IT infrastructure. HPE SimpliVity provides inherent data efficiencies for virtual machines, slashing recovery point objectives (RPOs) and recovery time objectives (RTOs) from days or hours to seconds, with a guaranteed 60-second restore for 1TB VM.
3. Global VM-centric management and mobility
HPE SimpliVity also simplifies day-to-day operations and enables seamless data mobility. Everything is managed through the native hypervisor management tools; there are no other tools to learn or software to manage. HPE SimpliVity uses policy-based, VM-centric management, allowing global changes to systems with just a few mouse clicks. Users can move VMs from one site to another in a few clicks, spin up new VMs in seconds, and enjoy a single view of all data centers and remote offices.
ROBO environments
As businesses spread to all corners of the world, so does the need to manage remote and branch offices. HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged solutions empower SMB and ROBO environments with enterprise-grade data services in a form factor that is simple to deploy, manage and scale. These solutions include two-node clusters and single-processor configurations for customers with lower compute needs, resulting in lower server and licensing costs.
Disaster Recovery
Being prepared in the event of a disaster can mean the difference between little to no downtime and days or weeks offline. HPE SimpliVity offers data protection features including built-in backup and integrated disaster recovery. Recovery times can be slashed by 70% or more compared to manual processes and reduce risk with automatically validated and documented recovery procedures with HPE SimpliVity RapidDR โ a disaster recovery automation product built to take advantage of the data efficiency of the HPE SimpliVity Data Virtualization Platform.
Accelerated all flash storage
Businesses today need IT to ensure high performance for their applications and easy access to important data, which is why flash is in demand and disrupting the industry status quo. Combining built-in dedupe and compression with an all-flash storage portfolio provides considerably higher performance and lower latency than other storage offerings. With higher IOPS and reduced latency per disk, more data can be processed and returned very quickly, enabling customers with fast access to data for decision making. Not only are performance levels much higher, but they are very consistent, which leads to predictable service levels for SLAs.
Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!
As IT becomes more central to businesses worldwide, complexity in the datacenter can drive inefficiency. A big advantage of HPE SimpliVity technology is how simple it is to use. Everything is managed through existing hypervisor tools, and all underlying data services are abstracted, ensuring ease of use on a familiar interface. And because the HPE SimpliVity is so powerful and simple to use, overall efficiency is increased, which means time and money savings. Current customers are seeing 69% cost savings compared to traditional infrastructure deployments, and up to 55% compared to public cloud alternatives.
Recognitions and awards
HPE SimpliVity was recognized as a market leader in the first ever Gartner Magic Quadrant for Hyperconverged Infrastructure in February 2018. In addition, the HPE SimpliVity 380 was named CRNโs 2017 hyperconverged product of the year.
