Discover the power of collaboration in Vegas

A remarkable aspect of our industry is the willingness to share best practice. In this blog I praise this collegiate approach – using the example of a new Vendor Analysis  report on Education from IDC – and I look forward to HP Discover – one of the best opportunities of the year for you to meet peers and share new ideas.

Inspired by collaboration

Let’s be honest, working in IT is demanding. Tightening belts and limited resources hamper efforts to keep plates spinning. And with a never-ending stream of crockery in the air, you need tenacity, courage and energy in this business. Set against the challenges are the rewards. And one of the most inspiring things about our industry is the willingness of people to share ideas so that others facing similar projects can learn from their experience. I love the fact that I can pick up the phone to people in my position in other organizations and seek advice.   I’m willing to bet that you do the same in your efforts to provide better IT for your people.

I was reminded of the power of collaboration this week when IDC’s Marketscape: Worldwide IT Education and Training Vendor Analysis 2013, popped onto my desk. The report covers a number of vendors, who, in the interests of helping other IT Education organizations learn from how they are servicing their customers, spoke to IDC. The analysis provides invaluable insight into strategies of leading education providers and gives a view into what challenges they are facing. This yearly report sparks ideas for myself and for my peers at other companies that could then very well lead to the implementation of new education solutions. It also looks at what the IT education sector does well and, where it can improve; I’ll be glancing my eye over these in more detail in later blogs – especially the recommendation that vendors need to help customers measure investments in education. As a passionate believer in education, I was also pleased to see that the report finds that:

  • Among factors impacting projects, the skills of the project team was rated number one

This observation validates the need for continual learning and collaboration. Collaboration of the type seen in the IDC report will be evident on a bigger stage on June 11 when HP, its partners and customers come together for our largest event over two days: HP Discover.

More chances to collaborate and learn

HP Discover is a great combination of keynotes, demonstrations, presentations and more. It’s also a great opportunity to meet informally and share ideas with colleagues from across the industry. If you are like me and look for chances to learn from peers, there’s no better place to do so than Discover.  You can learn from your peers by attending their presentations, chatting with them over lunch or talking through new ideas while standing next to them at a demonstration.

And while there learning from your peers, you can also learn from us.  Our education team will be out in force:

  • The Guru Bar: I can’t promise you drinks. But I can give you free time with experts from our Professional Services, Support and Education teams at the Guru Bar. Looking to brainstorm about a project or an issue that would benefit from an impartial view? The Guru Bar is the place for answers. Time here could well be the most rewarding you’ve invested in a bar, anywhere.
  • The Demo Theater: We’re running presentations on software adoption and certification – every year these sessions get great feedback – they only last 20 minutes so pop in and see how ‘up-skilling’ your people is a very effective investment.
  • The ART demonstration booth: Our HP Adoption Readiness Tool is lowering the cost of enablement. Our team is on hand to provide demos and answer your questions about this solution that’s changing the way training is created and delivered.

You can register for HP Discover here. I look forward to seeing many of you there and I’ll update you soon on my experience of the show.
