HP MSA SAN issue

Hi

We have a MSA2000  controllers model 2012fc G1 Modular Smart Array with additional 12 bay enclosures.

We have 14 disks and 2 spares.

Dirung the night we had a disk failure and the spare kicked in as expected but during the vdisk reconstruct a 2nd disk failed, causing the reconstruct to fail and the VDISK to go offline.

What do I need to do to get the vdisk back online and not lose any data?

Cannot comment on this unless I have a look at the logs.

Share the logs and I will priovid the best possibele solution.

Turns out data was lost and we had to re-initialise the array! very annoying

Assuming the RAID was RAID5 the failure of 2 disks means data is lost ...

Well, in this scenario we have an option for using “Trust” command

Using the trust command

• The trust command enables an offline vdisk to be brought online for emergency data recovery. This command must be enabled before each use. If used improperly this command can cause unstable operation and data loss and before use, carefully read the cautions and procedures below.
• The trust command resynchronizes time and date metadata on the drives, making LEFTOVR or failed drives that were once members of the vdisk active members of the vdisk again.
• User may need to use the trust command when a vdisk is offline and there is no data backup or as a last attempt to recover the current data on a vdisk. In these cases, the trust command may work, but only if the drives continue to operate.

There is always a solution with HP :)
