Hi,
we have 2 DL380 G5 and would like to connect a SAN to those servers, via SAS
My question should I use this MSA2324sa (AJ807A) or a P2000 G3 SAS MSA Dual Controller SFF Array System (AW594A)?
and my 2nd question which one of those 2 SAN is SCSI-3 PR (Persistent Reservation) compatible?
Kind regards,
Sami

Re: DL380 G5 SAN Choice/compatibility SCSI-3 PR
Hello,
The MSA2324SA is the MSA2000 G2, while the P2000 is the , G3 :)
I would suppose that you get the P2000 G3, it has some new features compared to the G2.
For example 6G SAS, VAAI and replication.
I have gotten this question about SCSI-3 PR before but don't remember what was the answer :/
"SCSI-3 PR, which stands for Persistent Reservation, supports multiple nodes accessing a device while at the same time blocking access to other nodes."
If so, the answer would imply that you use multipathing - several hosts accessing the same LUN/volume.
This is possible and supported.
If it means that you can give access to one LUN to only one server and another LUN to only another server, this is possible too. It's done via the 'mapping' in the SMU or via the CLI.

Re: DL380 G5 SAN Choice/compatibility SCSI-3 PR
by use I mean are there compatible?
in HP Product Bulletin for the DL380 G5 I only see
HP 2000sa Modular Smart Array Controller and not the G2 nor G3.

Re: DL380 G5 SAN Choice/compatibility SCSI-3 PR
well the DL380 G5 comes with a P400 by default, this is 3G SAS.
For supported cards see the P2000 G3 quickspecs:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12477_na/12477_na.html#Configuration Information - Factory Integrated Models
Then you could see if that card was supported in the DL380 G5.
You can get more information about this from HP SPOCK

Re: DL380 G5 SAN Choice/compatibility SCSI-3 PR
DL 380 G5 has 2 HBA SAS listed:
- HP SC08Ge Host Bus Adapter
- HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter
P2000 G3 needs HP SC08e.
2000sa G2 needs HP SC08Ge.
So my DL380 can work with the HP 2000sa G2. So now, I'll have to find out if that msa is SCSI-3 PR compatible (forHyper-V R2 Failover Clustering).
I will phone the HP support and respond here if I have something.
thank you Johan for your help

Re: DL380 G5 SAN Choice/compatibility SCSI-3 PR
Hi,
apparently in SPOCK it's compatible with W2K8 R2 Hyper-V, says my HP reseller.
So it should work.
