AIO 1200 upgrade P400 with P800

I am looking to replace the P400 smart array controller with the P800. From what I can tell this should be straight forward and that my raid configs will be copied over. Anything I need to worry about? Your help is appreciated.

Re: AIO 1200 upgrade P400 with P800

Hi David - I am looking at the same scenario i.e. replace the controller and then add a couple of MSA 70s to the AiO. I was just wondering if you ever did it and if you ran into any issues. BTW, the AiO we have has SATA drives and the MSAs will have SAS drives.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: AIO 1200 upgrade P400 with P800

Hi,

I've just completed this very procedure. The P800 card uses the same firmware and the same drivers as the P400. (Essentially the same chipset, but with more Channels). Raid config meta data is stored on the disks.

1. Download the latest Proliant firmware DVD ISO from HP.
2. Run the firmware update on the AIO with the P400 card and update all firmware and bios on the system (Latest Bios for P400/P800 is v7.08 from memory).
3. Boot into windows server and make sure all is OK.
4. Replace P400 with the P800 card.
5. Before you boot into windows run the Bios update again to make sure that the Firmware revision is the same, if not flash the P800 up to v7.08.

Worked a treat for me.

BTW, the MSA 70 SAS will work with the AIO, I have exactly that config.
