Adding hard drives to SureStore HD Server 4000 (Please help!)

We need to add hard drives to our H-P
SureStore HD Server 4000 but we are having
a problem finding a source (new or used).

The hard drive specifications for the H-P
SureStore HD Server 4000 (model J3290A) do
not sufficiently describe the type of
compatible hard drives that will work in
this unit. The HP part numbers cited in
the specifications document have all been
discontinued. Therefore, we must find a
third-party replacement.

We would greatly appreciate the efforts of
one of the esteemed members of this forum
to describe the specifications so that we
can find another source!

Thanks in adbvance,

pdp

Phil,
disks you may install into this server are D4289A (9.1GB), D6019A (9.1GB), D5039A (18.2GB), D3583C (4.2GB) and D4903A (4.2GB, 10K rpm), see http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=lpg60100 ;
How to add disk http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=lpg60112 ;
These disk products are obsoleted. You can try to buy remarketed disks. These disks are standard hot-swap fast SCSI-2 disks. They were used in old HP Netservers.
Explore 20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix65146.html ;
This page may help you to find disks with similar interfaces http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=lpn12570
Did you check with HP if it's possible to replace this HD4000 server with modern NAS server by any trade-in program?
Hope it will help

The drives are very expensive but the company www.eetnordic.com hase some left. 18.2GB drives partnumber is D5039-69001 or D4289-69001 for the 9.1GB
If you need more info on secondhand HDD's leave your email and I'll send you some more links.

Re: Adding hard drives to SureStore HD Server 4000 (Please help!)

Would someone please help us understand our
options for locating alternate hard drives?

The specifications found at the link cited
below are not sufficient for identifying
a third-party replacement.

In addition, it does not state if there
are any size limitations.

We would appreciate a description of the
"generic" hard drive specifications for the
Hewlett-Packard SureStore HD Server 4000
(model J3290A) so that we might locate
another source!

Thanks in advance,

pdp

Re: Adding hard drives to SureStore HD Server 4000 (Please help!)

I presume you are using the 4GB hdd's. Then your size limitation is 4 GB. I'ts alway's the smallest size in a raid. If you take out all 3 hdd's then your limitation on the 4000server is 18.something GB. that are the largest disks we are using. I never tried to swap the actual disk in the cradle.

Re: Adding hard drives to SureStore HD Server 4000 (Please help!)

OK, so we pull the three 4GB hard drives.

What type of matched drives can we add?

Is it just a matter of making sure the drives
have 80 pin connectors?

Thanks in advance,
