Clustering on X1800 Win2008 Storage Server
I'm trying to recreate our current storage solution (NAS4000 cluster) with a couple of new X1800's. We used to create a 2-node cluster using MS clustering and create cluster resources server name, ip address and file shares so that the storage could cope with a node failure. However, I can't seem to see MS clustering on Win2008 Storage Server. What is the reccommended way of achieving cluster-like resilience with Win2008?
Thanks.

Re: Clustering on X1800 Win2008 Storage Server
The x1800 ships with Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008, Standard x64 Edition. Standard edition does not include clustering support.
The X3800 comes with Microsoft├В┬о Windows Storage Server 2008 Enterprise operating system -- including cluster services.
So, with your current x18000 servers there is no way to set up a traditional cluster as you would like.
Any possibility to swap the X1800 for X3800 servers?
Thanks,
Monty

Re: Clustering on X1800 Win2008 Storage Server
I consulted with our hardware suppliers and they told me the same. Despite the fact they sold me this in the first place and knew what I wanted to do. Will try and swap boxes.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Clustering on X1800 Win2008 Storage Server
if you want to achieve high-availability for file shares without using Microsoft Cluster, you could take a closer look onto Microsoft DFS and DFS replication.
