Is it possible to span multiple MSA20s as a single volume for HP DL100 Storage Server?
Thanks a lot in advance...

SolutionThe DL100G2 supports the SmartArray 642 and the SmartArray 6402. With the 6402, 2 MSA20s can be attached.
Information pulled from the QuickSpecs for the DL100G2 and DL100G2 Data Protection Storage Server.
Keep an eye on the quickspecs for qualification of the 6404 (daugther board upgrade to the 6402)

Re: DL100 with MSA20
You can not span an "Array" across multiple MSA20s. The MSA20 has an internal RAID Controller that makes it impossible.

Re: DL100 with MSA20
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/sharedstorage/sacluster/msa20/questionsanswers.html
""Q12. Is the MSA20 an Array or a JBOD?
A12. Regardless of what the MSA20 is attached to, it is an Array. When attached to a 6402 or 642, all of the Array features are available. When attached to a MSA1500, the MSA1500 presents the MSA20 to the user as a JBOD by using a sub-set of it's features.
Q13. Can an MSA20 be stripped across enclosures?
A13. When the MSA20 is connected to a 6402 or 642, the user cannot create a single volume spanning MSA20 enclosures. When the MSA20 is connected to a MSA1500 the user can create a single volume spanning multiple MSA20 enclosures.
""
If the MSA20 is connected to a backplane SmartArray controller, this one just acts as a 'path-through'.
If the MSA20 is connected to a MSA1500 storage array, the internal SmartArray controller encapsulates each physical disk drive as a JBOD - in SmartArray terms, they call it a (single-disk) "RAID-0", sigh. That allows logical disks to span multiple MSA20, but it prevents the use of DtS.
