Drive 0 Failed Storageworks 1200s
Drive 0 on my Storageworks 1200S has failed. The server is still running with RAID 5 and the mirror of the C: drive. Can you hot swap the drives in the 1200s, or do I need to bring it down in order to swap out the drives. The documentation says the drives are hot-pluggable, but I don't want to pull one and have the server go down. The other fear if I need to bring the server down will I be able to boot to the mirror since drive 0 has failed?

Re: Drive 0 Failed Storageworks 1200s
Indeed they are HOT pluggable Brian. No need to turn down the whole server down.

Re: Drive 0 Failed Storageworks 1200s
Hi Brian,
The previous reply is correct in that you will need to bring the system down for the OS to see the newly added drive.
The documentation is correct that the drive is hot-pluggable. There is a difference in Hot-plug and hot-swap.
Hot-plug == You won't release damage the system if you plug it in while the system is on.
Hot-swap == You can swap out the part without powering down.
Sorry for the confusion.
Also note: let the RAID set rebuild complete (manual operation in Disk Manager) before rebooting the system.
