Failed to discover quotas error on HP All-in-One Storage Manager (Server)
Our company recently acquired a HP All-in-One Storage Manager mainly for backup purposes. It has been working fine overall (don't know why I find it a little bit slow). Today when inspecting the event viewer I found out that the following error is getting logged a lot:
~~~ DISCOVERY: Failure 2 from DirQuotaManager: Failed to discover directory quotas.
Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this error?
Thanks in advance
Javier
Re: Failed to discover quotas error on HP All-in-One Storage Manager (Server)
Can you please describe your system ? For example, model, SW level, what (if any) patches were applied, etc.
Thanks
Robert
Here is the first error:
~~~ DISCOVERY: Failure 1 from FileManager: Failed to discover File shares.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Failed to discover quotas error on HP All-in-One Storage Manager (Server)
It would also be helpful to get the following information from you (post it to this forum) so that I may begin resolving this in parallel to your call to HP support.
1. The original S/W version (out of the box)
2. The versions up updates and the order in which you upgraded to 1.2a
3. The ASMServerlog.txt file (see below)
Also registering with the Business Support Center would be a good idea. Go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support and enter your product name. You should find the link to register there.
To collect an ASMServerLog.txt file follow these instructions.
1. Find the file hpkas-config.xml (typically in C:\Program Files\HP\HP All-in-One Storage Manager)
2. Make a copy of the file.
3. Open the file with notepad or wordpad.
4. Find the LoggingLevel tag (about line 6)
5. Change Warning to Tracing
6. Save and close the file
7. Make sure the HP All-in-One Storage System Management MMC console window is closed.
8. Restart the HP All-in-One Storage Manager Server service
8a. Open a windows explorer window (not IE)
8b. Enter "Services" in the address bar and press return
8c. Find the HP AiO Storage Manager Server service
8d. Click on the Actions->All Tasks->Restart menu item.
9. Verify that the C:\ASMServerLog.txt file exists
10. Run your system and reproduce the problem.
11. Once again, close the MMC console.
12. Replace the hpkas-config.xml with the copy you made in step 2.
13. Repeast step 8 to restart the service.

Continuous logging may negatively affect the performance of your system.

Thank you
Robert
