Failed to discover quotas error on HP All-in-One Storage Manager (Server)

Hi

Our company recently acquired a HP All-in-One Storage Manager mainly for backup purposes. It has been working fine overall (don't know why I find it a little bit slow). Today when inspecting the event viewer I found out that the following error is getting logged a lot:

~~~ DISCOVERY: Failure 2 from DirQuotaManager: Failed to discover directory quotas.
Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this error?
Thanks in advance
Javier
Hello,
Can you please describe your system ? For example, model, SW level, what (if any) patches were applied, etc.
Thanks
Could you also please indicate any other errors that you may see before this one ? the '2' indicates that this is the second error and knowing what the first one is may prove helpful.
Thanks
Robert
While I would most certainly prefer to resolve this for you in this forum, I think the best course of action would be to go through the HP support system. Also referring to the latest release notes, etc. may provide you with some insight. The HP Support folks can take you through the process of setting up logging and collesting debugging information so that we can get to the root of your problem faster.
Re: Failed to discover quotas error on HP All-in-One Storage Manager (Server)
I am sorry that you are having problems. To make sure that we can collect all the information we need to resolve your issues, can you please contact HP support ? I would much prefer to get your problem fixed here but if we approach it that way, a record of the problems and resolution would be very difficult to put back into the support system. On the other hand if you go through HP support, everything is recorded and they can better guide you through the process of collecting information. When you do contact HP support, it would be very helpful to know the history of your system (e.g. original version, new version, how you got to the new version, and any other updates, etc. that you have applied) I hope you understand the need to get a solution recorded so others that may encounter the problem can also bennefit from the solution.
It would also be helpful to get the following information from you (post it to this forum) so that I may begin resolving this in parallel to your call to HP support.
1. The original S/W version (out of the box)
2. The versions up updates and the order in which you upgraded to 1.2a
3. The ASMServerlog.txt file (see below)
Also registering with the Business Support Center would be a good idea. Go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support and enter your product name. You should find the link to register there.
To collect an ASMServerLog.txt file follow these instructions.
1. Find the file hpkas-config.xml (typically in C:\Program Files\HP\HP All-in-One Storage Manager)
2. Make a copy of the file.
3. Open the file with notepad or wordpad.
4. Find the LoggingLevel tag (about line 6)
5. Change Warning to Tracing
6. Save and close the file
7. Make sure the HP All-in-One Storage System Management MMC console window is closed.
8. Restart the HP All-in-One Storage Manager Server service
8a. Open a windows explorer window (not IE)
8b. Enter "Services" in the address bar and press return
8c. Find the HP AiO Storage Manager Server service
8d. Click on the Actions->All Tasks->Restart menu item.
9. Verify that the C:\ASMServerLog.txt file exists
10. Run your system and reproduce the problem.
11. Once again, close the MMC console.
12. Replace the hpkas-config.xml with the copy you made in step 2.
13. Repeast step 8 to restart the service.
Continuous logging may negatively affect the performance of your system.
