HP Storageworks x1400 G2: Replace a failed Hard drive

Dear All,

I have a HP Storageworks x1400 G2 with 4x2TB SATA with RAID-5 mode. It has been running since march 2012. Today I see there is a FAILED hardisk on bay3.

I have contacted local reseller to deliver a replacement hard drive. My question is:

How do I replace this failed drive? Can I replace this drive on hotswap mode (machine is running / ON) or I have to shut down the machine (machine off)?

After the new drive is plugged, is there any software configuration that must be set up?

Any help is deeply appreciate.

Thanks,

Hi,

the X1400 G2 uses an HP Smart Array P212 controller -> http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13839_na/13839_na.pdf

This means you can just take out the broken drive and put in the new one. Rebuild will start automatically. No need to reboot or do it offline.

I have a similar situation except the drive is in Bay 1 and the system is not booting into the OS.  Can a new drive be added to that bay and still have the system rebuild itself?
