Linux as host on X1600
Hi
I need a new NAS for a pure Linux environment. I've been looking at X1600G2 w. 24TB, it is just what I been looking for.
But it comes with Windows Server installed on it. For full functionality with our Linux environment I want to install Linux (Debian or RHEL) on if as host.
Is this possible? I am not asking if it is supported, just can it be done?
Look like the Linux drivers for e.g.. RAID controller exists, so I would say chances are good. If not, any suggestions for an Linux compatible alternative?
Thanks,
Jesper

Re: Linux as host on X1600
Howdy,
From the quickspecs http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13839_na/13839_na.html
"The X1600 G2 is built on a HP ProLiant DL180 G6 server chassis," - but with a custom motherboard for iLO2.
If the DL180 G6 can handle your linux-based OS you _should_ be fine, but maybe not.
You should be able to find it here: http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/458915-0-0-0-121.html
but the link to linux isn't working for some reason..
Why not get a DL180 G6 and then install whatever OS you want on it?
